Barry put together this video in response to the BP oil disaster. Written almost a decade ago, the oil spills in the Gulf, Michigan, and across the world make this song's message even more powerful today.
The links below emphasize that the oil disaster in the Gulf is not an isolated incident. We hope it inspires you to stand-up and contact people in power to demand a focus on clean energy and better oversight of the oil and gas industry.
It is hard to look at the pictures in this photo essay. These pictures come from a port city in China called Dalian, where two pipelines exploded on July 16, sending black crude into the Yellow Sea. CAUTION: There is a picture of a young man that fell into the oil-slicked water.
An oil pipeline break discovered on Monday, August 2 caused more than 800,000 gallons of oil to spill into the Kalamazoo River in southern Michigan. It is one of the worst oil spill disasters in the history of the Midwest U.S. Birds and fish have been coated by oil as a result of the spill. The Kalamazoo River leads to Lake Michigan.
Tap water that burns, "bubbling" streams that can be set on fire, and contaminated water supplies expose the darkside of a new "fracking" process for extracting natural gas. This started out West on public lands, is in 34 states, and may begin in upstate New York very soon.
Click this link to contact all of your Congressional Representatives and Senators and ask them to close the Halliburton Loophole, which is a exemption to the Clean Drinking Water Act that allows natural gas companies to pump millions of gallons of over 500 chemicals into the ground at each well. Exxon Valdez Anniversary: 20 Years Later, Oil Remains: Two decades after the worst oil spill in U.S. history, huge quantities of oil still coat Alaska's shores with a toxic glaze, experts say....
The lyrics to this song are even more powerful today than when Barry wrote them for the Shakin' From the Trees album. Are you ready to Stand-Up for change? An environmental disaster is threatening the Maharashtra coast after Saturday's ship collision off the Mumbai harbour. The oil slick has spread to the Alibag and Uran area, and also close to Elephanta caves. Concerns are that it may also affect the mangrove belt along the coastline. Coast guards have said it will be tough to contain the oil spill because of tidal conditions.
When the MSC Chitra collided it had a cargo of 1219 containers. The cargo contained 2662 tonnes of fuel, 283 tonnes of diesel and 88040 litres of lubricant oil.
From Rome, to Venice, to the serene Italian countryside, one can find small shops called Tavola Calda's that serve hot fresh food and desserts quickly to their patrons. The literal English translation of Tavola Calda is “Hot Table”. Some local businessmen thought it would be a great idea to bring this concept here and introduce America to the same great Panini sandwiches and wraps, coffee and desserts that are found in these shops. We're a big fan of this restaurant's food and what they stand for. Please stop in, enjoy the food and spread the word about the Screaming Souls. We hope you enjoy your visit to their little piece of Italy.
Enjoy Hot Table at their Tower Square location in downtown Springfield and their Breckwood location near WNEC.
